Pewter Bright Cuts
Pewter buttons for ladies' wear were introduced after the middle of the 19th century. Many have stamped or cast designs tinted with varnish and enhanced by bright cutting, which gives a distinctive look to these Victorian pewter buttons. A low grade pewter (lead-pewter or plumbago) was often used to stamp out decorative designs which were mounted on metal buttons from the period between 1870-1890
