A hard to find 18th century military/political statement button. This gilded brass over wood button features popular Republican symbols from the period 1792-1795. Features the Roman fasces, an oak wreath, the liberty cap all popular symbols. Over the top of the button are the words REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE. Thin stamped gilded brass over a wooden mold/cap with four holes and catgut as the shank or sewing apparatus.
