One piece stamped brass pierced at the open window and set with a polished steel mirror.  The button is most likely an illustration of Florian's fable, The Cat and the Mirror.

A cat sees himself reflected in a mirror and thinks he is confronting a rival cat.  He peers behind and climbs up onto the mirror but sees no other cat.  He gives up in disgust telling himslef that he had better go back to the kitchen and scare the mice, for at least they are familiar adversaries that he can understand.
